We had no plans of heading out of town this weekend and it never crossed our minds. On Sunday morning we were just playing the game of, ‘what should we do today?’ All of our friends were out of town and the idea of doing another house project, organizing another drawer, planting another plant wasn’t at the top of our list. The day before I deep cleaned the entire house, my husband worked in the yard and the laundry was pretty much caught up… that’s a lie, it’s never caught up. Ever. I’ll never have that part of my life together.
The kids needed a change of scenery… we all did after being home for so long. We randomly got online and started looking at Airbnb rentals and found a sweet spot at Murrells Inlet and booked it. We’ve never been, and really didn’t know much about the town. We packed one large LL Bean bag with our families clothes, suits, pajamas and a small toiletries bag! We put our two beach chairs, umbrella, beach wagon, packed a cooler and got our bag of sand toys in the car and an hour later we were out the door. Three and a half hours later we were at our rental! John and I both said we’ve never appreciated the change of scenery more in our lives! It was so nice to see the beach!
We spent the rest of the late afternoon into the evening in the sand! The kids ran for hours, built sandcastles, rode the waves on their boards! At dinner time John ran out and picked up food and we made a picnic on the beach. Later that evening we went back, showered and watched Dolphin Tales on Netflix. Henry’s been begging us to stay up until midnight, and he almost made it that late.
On Monday (Memorial Day) Henry was up and dressed in his suit by 6:30am! We grabbed a popsicle for him and coffee for me and we walked the beach together while my husband and Olive slept. They joined us an hour later with a kite and the kids had so much fun flying! It was a chilly, overcast morning, but warmed up that afternoon and the sun came out! The beaches at Murrells Inlet were basically empty!
Later that day we just hopped from the pool to the beach! The owners of the Airbnb that we rented were so kind and let us use the pool of one of their other properties down the street. Nobody was staying there so we were able to hop between the two! The pool had the prettiest view of the marsh!
We had so much fun and I’m so glad we left town! A much needed change in scenery and we still felt safe and were able to distance ourselves from others! Feels so good that things are starting to get back to normal!
It’s Tuesday morning and we left around 5:30am since both John and I have work and we have homeschool for Henry!
Hope y’all had a nice long weekend!
