Our house renovation has truly been a labor of love since we made the move from Huntersville to South Charlotte 3 years ago. When we bought our home in 2019, it was a dated, dark, 90’s style house full of dark wood and brass fixtures and knobs. We fell in love with the home because it had great bones, just needed a little facelift. If you’ve ever renovated a home, you know that paint and fixtures can make a huge difference. We started with paint, brightening up the space and bringing light into each room (more on the paint colors we used in our home in this blog post!). Then, we chose door knobs, hinges, and locks that would compliment the gold and silver accessories scattered throughout our home. We chose the French Antique finish for all of our knobs and fixtures- I love the modern feel and the way it seamlessly goes with both gold and silver accessories.
We used the Norwich style knobs on every passage door with the Rectangular Rosette in the French Antique finish. On our French doors that lead from our sitting room to our family room, we have the Emtek Surface Bolts also in the French Antique finish.
Here’s a better look at how the knobs blend with my silver and gold accessories- I love how the French Antique finish will acquire a subtle patina over time- they truly look worn in and warm in every room in our house.
Some Before & Afters
You can see here the old school 90’s style fixtures in our house when we moved in- the doors were all off kilter, having trouble closing, needed a little TLC!
Adding new knobs and surface bolts completely changed the look of these French doors- I honestly can’t believe this is the same house when I look back at these photos!
Since we started sharing the progress from our home, the most asked question I get is about the locks on our French doors in our sitting room. They made such a big change and brought these doors to life!

Where did you find hinges to match?
