I wish we had an epic reasoning as to why we fell in love and now associate our daughter with the name, Olive Amelia. If you followed our journey towards parenthood with Henry, then you probably recall the name, Elle that we loved. That name then shifted to, Hope as we started our quest towards baby number two. It shifted again.
OLIVE
We were actually pregnant with our first IVF baby and it was at Henry’s first soccer games that we fell in love with the name. The name belonged to this adorable little blonde-haired girl… “Olive, chase the ball and not the bugs… Olive, keep your shoes on… Olive, no sitting in the goal… Olive, let’s not eat the grass… Olive, Olive, Olive…”! She was precious, innocent, quiet and the hubby looked at me half way through his first game and and said, “Olive, I love it”. I loved the name just as much.
Olive is the Symbol of Peace and hit peak popularity in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Biblical terms refer to the olive tree is a symbol of fruitfulness, beauty, and dignity. And in today’s world, “extending an olive branch”, traditionally signifies an offer of peace.
People with this name have a deep inner desire for love and companionship, and want to work with others to achieve peace and harmony. They also tend to be passionate, compassionate, intuitive, romantic, and to have magnetic personalities. They are usually humanitarian, broadminded and generous, and tend to follow professions where they can serve humanity. Because they are so affectionate and giving, they may be imposed on. They are romantic and easily fall in love, but may be easily hurt and are sometimes quick-tempered.
Funny enough, I also love olives (any olive). As a little girl, my grandmother always had a bowl of olives at every family function just for me.
AMELIA
Amelia Island is a vacation spot that we’ve ventured to going on the third year in a row now. It’s beautiful, peaceful and serene. It’s a spot that my husband grew up going to and now it’s special to him that we continue the “family vacation” tradition with our family. We’re flooded with so many happy memories and I know that it will be a spot that we continue to frequent. Because we love the coast, beach-life and where the water meets the sand, it was fitting to include the pretty name, Amelia into our daughters name.
A blend of the medieval names Emilia and Amalia. The name holds the meaning, “industrious” and “striving.”
