I wanted to share a project that I finished a few months ago in our living room. As most of you know, we love the coast. Bringing elements from ocean-life was an absolute must when we were pouring our creative minds into our home. At times, I think it looks a little country, but truthfully, I’m not a super-cool-hip-mod-mama and my heart will always be where the sand meets the ocean.
This little “nook” turned out a little tooooo coastal, but my hubby loves it so that’s all that matters. Also, a lot of what I used, I pulled from around the house.
I love gallery walls, but HATE the idea of putting a million holes in the wall. I have the patience of a 2 year old and I just don’t go (literally) hand-in-hand with a hammer (or measuring things out for that matter). Waiting for the hubby to get around to it definitely wouldn’t have mixed well with the patience level that I have. So, I opted for shelves. Except, as you can see, I could have gone larger with the shelves. I didn’t want to go the custom-made route (and of course wait for them to be made) and the only ones that I could find (with a slim profile) were from IKEA. Lucky for me (and the hubs), they were inexpensive!
Once the shelves were hung, I just started purchasing frames from Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Joss & Main, Ikea, World Market, etc. There wasn’t a “rhythm” when I was buying the frames, I just bought what I liked. For the frames that needed mats, I had those cut at Hobby Lobby (disregard the color of the mat in the top left – that has to be changed out). I’m definitely not a “less is more” kind of girl when it comes to a gallery wall and really love how the layering of artwork and family portraits turned out.
In addition to the shelves and frames, we purchased a console table and new pendant light fixtures (we had typical down lights prior to this little project). Matching baskets are used to store blankets and toys. I’m also pretty obsessed with my Himalayan Salt Lamp too, it’s supposed to help with cleaner indoor air quality, reduce allergies and improve the overall mood!
Below you can find a list of my sources.
