I strongly believe that wardrobe is a huge part of any photo session… an ad for Target, photo Christmas cards, an engagement session or for this matter an After Wedding Day Session. After a conversation with Melissa + Trey we quickly learned about their love for vintage glam. What a better place to bring that out then the theater district of NYC. After seeing Melissa’s Monique gown I automatically fell in love… the challenge you ask??? How to make the dress appear vintage. Melissa, Trey and myself spent an afternoon shopping. If you think all the way back to women’s fashion on the 1920’s, 1930’s even up to the 1940’s you should think of oversized shawls, gloves, jewelry, pin curls… the list really goes on. So with all of those thoughts in mind we took Melissa’s modern day gown and gave it a vintage twist.
The translucent gold shawl that I found for Melissa was purchased at Neiman Marcus. The cape spoke vintage language to us… it was perfect!
The delicate sheer gloves belong to me! I’m happy to share and lend any of my goodies with my clients.
Trey on bended knee presenting “the” SATC Manolo’s to his beautiful wife! {CUTE STORY… Trey actually proposed to Melissa with these shoes, she then wore them on her wedding day}!
Let’s talk about this tender loving man… Trey! I’m pretty sure he’s supposed to be from a different time period just trapped in this mod body. Both Trey + Melissa attended law school in Charleston {MY FAV SPOT IN THE SOUTH}. Trey, a man with impeccable taste and love for polished, tailored men’s fashion… had quiet the “dress up” wardrobe selection… that he owned! When I started to design the wardrobe around the theme of their session the first thing that came to mind was “pocket watch”… I asked Trey if he would mind investing in one, knowing that not too many gents under the age of 30 own their own pocket watch… his response to me “I have a collection, I will bring them all”. Everything that passed through my mind from a cane, black top hat, tail coat, bowtie, pocket watch… he had them all… owned them all.
Before leaving for NYC I emailed Trey and asked that he also brings a black umbrella… his response “I have a custom black umbrella made epically for me”. Let’s just say… Lindsey was over the top impressed and pleased!
Let’s talk about the jewels… necklace and earrings couldn’t have been more perfect. When we found those, I swear I got weak in my knees… ha! No but really. Thank you Kate Spade!!
LOVED how they both got into character!
Melissa doesn’t need makeup to be beautiful but given the time period that we were replicating we decided to go with more of a dramatic look. Smokey eyes with purples as a base. Soft cheeks and lip which allowed her eyes to be the primary focus. Using #15 MAC lashes… MY FAV! With the hair we did soft curls and pinned up and to the side.
……………and I leave you with this my Followers.
