Good mornin’ ladies! Hope y’all had a wonderful weekend and Father’s Day weekend.
Wanted to follow up regarding my post from last week about dressing the mom bod! Thank you all! I’m amazed by your response – the emails, texts, comments, FB and direct messages! We can all relate on so many levels and I’m glad to know that while a mama’s self-confidence is low on the totem-pole, it’s still something that can eat (lol, no pun) at our emotional state on the daily.
Please know that I write all of this, keeping in mind the bigger problems in the world. People fighting for their children’s lives, couples praying to become parents, those who have lost children, people who are fighting for their own lives. In the scheme of “life problems” this is at the bottom of the list… but something that I’m going through and I try to keep it real and raw on my blog – share the strengths and struggles, so here I am. Owning my insecurities within this thing called, “the mom bod”.
Here’s another off the shoulder dress that is making me feel like a million bucks with all the extra 20lbs of fluff (also under $100)! It’s a softer version of a shirt dress and I love the high / low detail in the front and back. Super flattering and a little sexy too. One guess where I purchased this dress (and my entire wardrobe), Nordstrom’s!
Someone asked why I’m loving off the shoulder dresses so much. I should have covered that in my last post. To me, there’s nothing more pretty than a woman’s neckline, it’s a slimming area on the body and I feel like when you are a few pounds out of your comfort zone and wear a dress or top with a high neck. It almost makes my face appear a little more round. I love how the shoulders are slightly exposed, but it covers the (in my world) untoned tricep – WE ALL know what happens when we life our arm and do the little arm jiggle (*sigh*). I have a larger chest, so anything with a scoop neck or v-neck just shows off too much cleavage and on me, I’m just not comfortable flaunting that area. In another post, I’ll tell you how I’m working towards a reduction. Anyways, an off the shoulder top or dress is just all the rage right now and flattering on a wide range of body types.
We head to the beach this weekend for our family vacation. I’m so excited and this will be a staple in my wardrobe. If y’all have any good beach recommendations, please let me know. With my son, we were more of a less is more family, but I’m learning quickly that with two, I might need to use the extra resources that are available. Like a baby beach tent??? Nonetheless, we’re so excited and there’s nothing we love more than making memories on the beach!

We go on one family vacation a year, where it’s just our family, the four of us, on our own schedule. So excited to get away. John (finally! Been counting down this birthday for awhile now!) turns 40 on Thursday and for his birthday he wanted to get away with his little family! I have a few surprises planned for us though, like a sunset cruise and beach bonfire. I really wanted to do an hour surf lesson for him, but the shark situation scares me, lol… but really!
Honestly, I feel like I’ve somewhat dropped the ball with doing something epic for his birthday. Yes, we went to Charleston in May with friends and we’re doing this family trip… but am I supposed to be doing some sort of surprise party? Cruise or big adult only beach vacation? He keeps reassuring me that he isn’t into surprise parties and that this family vacation is all that he wants?!
What are your favorite things to do when you go on a beach vacation with the kiddos? We normally hop between the pool and beach. We’ll play some putt-putt golf, take the carts for a spin, rent bikes to explore the island. We might attempt to take Henry fishing off the dock, but I say that and I know we’ll (he’ll) get distracted at the pool. Where we’re headed, it’s SUPER family oriented. Dance parties at the pool and all!
Do y’all have any good family beach traditions?
