One of the areas that all preggo women need to scale back on is skin care (insert the emjoi with the breaking heart). Taking care of my skin and pampering it, actually happens to be a hobby of mine. I love (can’t emphasize LOVE enough), trying new products, doing skincare research, meeting with estheticians, treatments, the list goes on. I also enjoy educating others on skincare.
As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of Rodan and Fields (I’m even a consultant for R&F). I’ve been using their products religiously since September of 2014 and they have indeed changed my skin.
The powerful and targeted anti-aging lines in any skincare regimen typically have a handful of ingredients that are considered potentially harmful to a growing baby. That’s why it’s so important to do your research and trust the line that you’re applying to your skin.
Here’s what I’ve been using on this preggo skin of mine… thankful that the dermintologist behind R&F have developed a few lines and products safe for pregnancy.
Breakouts: Like most women during pregnancy the breakouts have been a little unpredictable with the rising estrogen levels our systems and progesterone, which causes your glands to increase acne-causing secretions of oil, called sebum) can clog up pores and cause bacteria to build up, leading to breakouts.
My pregnancy-incuded acne has been cured thanks to the Unblemished Regimen. I’m not kidding, this works (for me) in just 2-3 days. It’s crazy. I love this line because it doesn’t over dry or dull my skin… and more so, it works. It was designed and formulated for female/ hormone/ adult acne, which is so important if you’re curing acne, but wanting to preserve the youth of your skin.
Even-Toned Complexion: Once I’ve controlled my breakouts, I’ll use the Soothe Regimen, which is also safe for pregnancy. It’s developed for sensitive skin (which I don’t have), but I have had a lot of redness and blotchiness during my first trimester. Soothe has taken my dry, chapped, looking red-skin and has given it an even glow. I probably wouldn’t have tried this line if it wasn’t for pregnancy and I’m so glad that I did. It’s one that I’ll keep in rotation for awhile.
Face Scrub: Two to three times a week I do a “deep clean” to my face and pours. The Micro-Dermabrasion Paste has been one of my favorites forever. This is an oil-free formula designed to promote max. gentle exfoliation and enhance cell turnover to improve skin tone and texture. I used this after giving birth to Henry to help eliminate the appearance of stretch marks and that it did! So, not only do I use it on my face, but I use it on my tummy as well.
Foaming Sunless Tan: Totally guilty of slathering myself in the Rodan and Fields Foaming Sunless Tanner – which has been rated by the beauty wold as the NUMBER ONE sunless tanner. I sop my body in this a few times per week (especially Friday’s before spending the weekend at the pool).
Coconut Oil: Since most eye-creams are considered a big-fat-no-no while preggo, I’ve been soaking my eyes at night with my favorite, Cocovit Oil. For the face and skin in general Cocovit Coconut Oil is extremely hydrating which helps to restore the skin’s moisture and thus reducing the visible fine lines and wrinkles. This raw oil actually sinks deep into the skin and stays locked in.
