How is this even possible? My baby is 7 months old today?
Feels like yesterday I was cuddling him in the hospital, ‘purelling’ my hands every 2-seconds, asking every nurse that entered the room “am I doing this right?!” and soaking in the moment that… “this is my life and he is mine”. John and I always say, “what did we talk about before Henry?!”, as I’m sure every parent will agree. He’s seriously the best and I’m not sure how we got so lucky. If it’s not in God’s plan for us to be another baby’s mommy and daddy, we would both be completely content with our little family and our #1 blessing.
Like every baby, it/ he was a struggle at first. Through month 4 we used the term, “survival mode” religiously. He wasn’t a great sleeper. Wouldn’t take a paci to help self soothe, but that little nugget sure did smile. We followed the Mom’s on Call schedule and it worked during the day, but nighttime was a different story. Again, he’s a baby and baby’s most of the time (from what I understand) aren’t great sleepers. When he turned 5 months, my hubby took it upon himself to read one of the only parenting books we read called “12 Hours of Sleep in 12 Weeks“. Within 3 nights we dropped the 3am feeding and 3 nights later we dropped the 11pm dream feed. Like that…. we had a baby sleeping through the night.
Around month 5 we fed him his first meal of organic rice cereal, He took his rice cereal well and we found early on that this is the only spoon set he’ll eat from. I guess the spoon does matter… well, to our crazy child it did. He learned to sit up on his own and also army crawl and started babbling with the best of them.
By month 6 he was saying “dada” (highly doubt he understands who dada is, but you can imagine how it melts the hubby). He was giving high-fives, sitting up in the bath tub and SPLASHING (the cutest), he went from army crawling to fast crawling. He is fully capable of using tables, benches, his crib and toys to pull himself up to standing. He’s really into this “discovery” phase and loves turning on & off switches and on & off the sound machine. His bottom right and top right teeth broke the surface (thank you!). He also took his second plane ride to Florida, played in the swimming pool and ocean for the first time. Right when he turned 6 months I started to make his own baby food (thanks to my friend Mel for loaning me her baby food processor). I’m hooked and now buying one of my own. We decided to hold off on fruits at first and so far he loves all the veggies we’ve given to him… sweet potatoes, zucchini and peas. We’re now experiencing with “finger foods” and snacks. We also practice with sippy cups during meal times. Ooooppppssss… can’t forget. Separation anxiety. We got ourselves a good little boy, but man this mommy-separation-anxiety thing is no joke.
He’s truly the best thing that ever happened to me (and the hubby). I’m obsessed and smitten, as every parent is. He’s the best kind of crazy we’ve EVER experienced!
Excited to see what month 7 brings… oh and yesterday, we had to drop the crib to the very last notch. Don’t even ask… lol.
Happy birthday, my little love bug!
OHHHH and TOMORROW, I’m finally blogging his nursery!
Progression pics! 🙂
