WARNING: this is a LONG one and I need some nursery help from y’all!
I’ll do my summary at the end of my 35th week this THURSDAY! Crazy to believe on Thursday that I’ll be 36 weeks and only 4 weeks away from our due date. Dear John Henry,
Mama is begging you… if there’s one gift you could possibly give me as we anxiously await your birthday it would be the gift of sleep. Just one night, maybe a span of 3 hours, uninterrupted. I actually don’t mind being woken up to your jabs, but it would be nice to have a dream. I don’t remember my last dream… well, besides you!
This week was kind of a big week for mommy. My belly started contracting more in preparation for your arrival. I’m getting a little more uncomfortable and it’s getting harder to do things that used to be super easy. By this stage, if you decided to come early, we are thankful to know that steroids wouldn’t be needed for your lung development. According to the docs, you’re more than welcome to come after 34 weeks, however little man, Daddy and me encourage you to stay tight. We can’t wait to meet you, but we also know that it’s better for you to stay calm (and put) for the next few weeks.
We love you lots and can’t believe, although we haven’t met you yet, that you’re about to be all ours. Daddy says (everyday)… “I can’t believe we’re about to be parents”. You, literally, are the only thing we think about.
Love you dearly,
Mommy
Size of babe: A large cantaloupe!! 19-22″ and 5.5lbs… in ONE WEEK, I’ll have a watermelon in me! 36 weeks = watermelon. I know I’m 34 weeks, but I write these the day I turn a new week so I can reflect on the entire week.
This is how I ended my 34th week…
Weight gain: Perfect timing because I ended my 34th week at the doctors. According to the doc’s scale I’m up 32.8lbs (up .08 from last week), BUT according to my scale I’m up 36.8lbs. I know it sounds like a lot, but I went into this pregnancy thinking and knowing that I would gain a little more than 40lbs. I’m happy, he’s healthy and we’re both enjoying food!
Birthing process update: At my doc’s appointment today (Thursday), which is actually the day I turned 35 weeks. Doc confirmed that babe’s head is way down low. Hence all of the pressure and cramping. It’s weird because I’ve been getting crazy cramps in my hip bone area. I’m not dilated yet… crazy to think that we’re at that point where I’m being checked. BUT I’ve been having crazy Braxton Hicks, which is pretty normal, I guess. I’ve been having Braxton Hicks since my 26th week… but I maybe got one per week, recently I’ve been getting multiple per day.
The first week of November we will be taking a breastfeeding and infant CPR class.
I washed all of the baby clothes and packed his diaper bag/ hospital bag. I’m so excited to bring my diaper bag out of hiding… I treated myself to it after our 9 week appointment and graduation from REACH. Since then, it’s been hibernating at my girlfriends, Mel’s home… I was afraid I’d start using it.
By all means, I’m not complaining, but little man has definitely dropped which makes it hard to get comfortable… especially at night. Definitely hitting that point of discomfort… all worth it! 🙂
Maternity clothes: Getting lazy and I pretty much live in the same skinny jeans and yoga pants… bought a new pair of jammies (finally!), mainly for the hospital and I got a robe. Both aren’t maternity.
Gender: John Henry Thorne… pretty sure we’ll call him Henry.
Nursery: The rug arrived! 🙂 We did a pretty big size so it’ll be a HUGE pop in that room and cover the majority of it. Mainly did a big rug because we didn’t do super fancy/ expensive carpets in the bedrooms (rip off), so I figured I’d get a large rug that can camouflage stains (hence the navy). Also, got the bedding samples in. Y’all know me, I LOVE WHITE and I have a hard time with steering away from white when it comes to bedding. I’m SO IN LOVE with the NON-WHITE sheet. It’s gorgeous! Now the questions… definitely want a white big skirt. Especially since the skirt will be touching the navy rug.
So, do I go with a white skirt, blue + white chevron sheet and blue bumper??? OR white skirt, blue + white chevron sheet and white bumper? Typically the bumper matches the skirt. Here’s some images.
OR….
Now onto the exact bedding. Which do y’all like better.
Option #1 – this white skirt, this bumper with the same blue + white sheet pictured above???
Option #2 – this white skirt, this bumper with the same blue + white sheet pictured above???
Option #3 – NOTE: (this can be made in all white) this white skirt, this bumper with the same blue + white sheet pictured above???
Ok… now onto the last question. Which mirror do y’all prefer? One of them is $217 CHEAPER! My gosh… delivery adds up!
Option #1 – I love this mirror and I’ve looked everywhere for something more affordable and similar. When I say everrrrrryyyywhere I mean it. Online and in stores. Even hiked it out to Old Time Pottery and Garden Ridge. Let’s just face it, mirrors are expensive. This one with a coupon + delivery is $297. Is it worth it?
Option #2 – Without telling the hubby the price difference of $217, he actually liked this one better. I can get this one WITH delivery for $80. It’s hard to make out the finish, but it says it’s “crafted wood in a distressed gray finish”.
Size: 34.5″ high x 23″ wide
Movement: Still so much movement… every time I pass on the videos to friends with kiddos they can’t believe how active he is. It’s really crazy. He likes to come out and play at night! I can make out limbs and I never understood when people would say “I have a foot in my rib”… I now fully understand what that means, but more so, what that feels like. Yikes!
Sleep: Bleh. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a full nights rest. I know this is just mother nature preparing us for our soccer star. The belly has gotten ridiculously heavy, and when sleeping on your side (only option at this point), it feels like the baby is sinking along with all of that weight. The body pillow helps. This insomnia thing is crazy… the hubs checked his FB the other morning and said, “you realize you were commenting on posts at 2am”… shooo do… “do you realize what’s growing inside of me” ??? I’m also up lots to tinkle… I’d say between 3-5 times per night. What amazes me… my old-time-SLEEPING-diva-self used to be a total snot about my solid 7 hours… It’s amazing the LITTLE amount of sleep you really need to survive. The other thing keeping me up… Mr. Active, he’s INSANE at night, I love it though. It’s like our little bonding time.
What I miss: Just being comfortable and being able to breathe or sit with my back against any surface… like the sofa or a seat in the car. Every time I sit all the way back I have a hard time breathing. Still, it’s all worth it… and I know I’ll miss being pregnant, so I’m trying not to take it for granted.
Best moment this week: Probably spending all day on Sunday , “nesting”… washing the baby clothes and packing the diaper bag.
Looking forward to: NOVEMBER because November marks ONE MONTH!
Cravings: It’s not like I’m all “omg-gimmie-a-wedge-salad-now-plus-pumpkin-candycorn-or-I’ll-have-a-convulsion”… not at all… this is all what I’ve been craving all along is just what sounds extra good to me. Sometimes I cave, sometimes I don’t… most of the time I cave. Still salty foods. Bacon tastes delightful these days, so does sprinkle parmesan cheese, straight from the bag. Cake with buttercream frosting and a side of champs also sounds pretty amazing. So does Something Classics sugar cookies with the hard icing… the overpriced ($3.99) ones. I crushed an entire tub of Harris Teeters Pumpkin Pie ice cream this week (no words!!!!). I think my hubby also realizes that my pregnancy is coming to an end because he came home with CRISPY CREAM DONUTS, COOKIES and PEPPERMINT ICE CREAM. I typically take 2 bake and break cookies (warm) and smoother them in ice cream. TOAST, omg, TOAST!
Typically here’s what I eat (during the week… we won’t discuss weekends): Breakfast: fiber one bar Morning Snack: cheese or some sort of protein (greek yogurt / cottage cheese) Lunch: I LOVE egg salad… I do 1 whole egg and 3 addt. egg whites + 2 pickle spears and eat that alone all chopped up (no bread, but sometimes over romaine) and a piece of fruit or another granola bar. Snacks Throughout the Day: apple, melon, carrots/ celery/ peppers and hummus, cheese sticks, etc…. (NOTE: I typically go to the fridge to kill that bag of sprinkle parm about 100x per day). Dinner: we literally rotate 2 different types of dinners each night #1) dinner salad with romaine, parmesan cheese, bacon, corn from the cob, apple, shrimp with pomegranate dressing. OR WE DO #2) crockpot greek chicken, veggie side (mushrooms, etc… then I pile the entire bag of parm cheese on top) and we’ll split a sweet potato that we cut like french fries and cook on the cooktop… reminds me of sweet potato fries. Dessert: ice cream bar (the low cal ones). Disclaimer: This is what I eat 51.5555% of the time… I would lie if I said I didn’t give into those cravings. Half the time, I’ll be answering emails and get the sudden urge/ craving for 2 slices of toast, slathered in butter with cinnamon and sugar! We won’t get into the weekend menu (insert that emoji face without a mouth).
Symptoms: Braxton Hicks, cramps, down near my hips I’m starting to get really sore… I’ll still go with cellulite, shortness of breath and Charley Horses, insomnia.
Workouts: I think I did 4 different 5-6 mile walks last week. Getting pretty slow and I stop several times, BUT it feels good and I really do enjoy being outside this time of year.
