You might recall awhile back when I BLOGGED about how I was loosing my long locks. My hair was falling out by the handfuls. Not only was I shedding by the root but by midway breakage as well. My hair is what makes me, it’s the way I artistically express myself! 😉 … no really! Needless to say when I really started noticing my loss of locks I had to take action. So, I did!
For those who know me know that I’m a product freak. I love the products – cheap and expensive… if it sounds good and smells good I’ve probably tried it. I’m not a “hair dresser”, I do updo’s and crazy, wild styles. I didn’t go to school for hair so I’m lacking that technical “color and cutting” knowledge. Over time, however I’ve became familiar with ingredients and one thing I do know is hair textures. With that said… I’ve done my best to put together a “healthy hair” plan that has seriously worked. It all started with a good haircut thanks to my fabulous girl Amanda! She snipped 3.5”!
SHAMPOO :: Prior to my “healthy hair plan” I was washing my hair 2-3 times per week. I had the mindset that the less washes the healthier the hair. Nope! Maybe for some but not for me. I’m one active girl… I run outside 6 days a week and I sweat like a hyena… which obviously leaves my hair looking like a hot oily mess. So, in order to go so long between my washes I absorbed the oils by using a dry shampoo B.) PSST. I loved it, not going to deny that… but if you read the fine lines you’ll notice the #1 ingredient is alcohol. What happens if you put alcohol on your skin? It dries it, correct? So, what do you think it does to your hair? Especially when your dousing your roots. Yikes! Now, I’ve turned to washing my hair every other day… and I found the perfect shampoo. A.)BLOW MAKE MY DAY REPLENISHING SHAPOO$16 a daily, gentle, sulfate-free shampoo that deep cleans hair without stripping of it’s essential moisture. It’s awesome!
CONDITIONER :: This is my favorite part of my routine – it’s when I feel like I’m feeding my hair with all the necessary nutrients to keep it extra silky smooth and healthy. I’ve been using two conditioning treatments {not conditioners} that I alternate with every other shampoo. C.) IT’S A 10 MIRACLE HAIR MASK$30 and D.) LOREAL PROFESSIONALS ABSOLUTE REPAIR $24. I normally shampoo and then ring my hair out, apply conditioner and then put a shower cap on and leave it all on while I shave my legs. My favorite of the two is IT’S A 10 but I’m so afraid that my hair will get accustomed to the product so that’s why I think it’s important to change it up by alternating the two. IT’S A 10 is developed to respond to the results of damaged, color treated, over heated hair. Both are full of proteins made to nourish brittle strands.
STYLING PRODUCTS :: I blend two products {while my hair is still damp}… and not generously. Most stylist will tell you to use a “dime size”… whatev’s! I use like a half dollar size. F.) AVEDA LIGHT ELEMENTS SMOOTHING FLUID $24 and E.) KENVIN MURPHY BODY GUARD $22 I pour both into the palm of my hand at the same time, rub my hands together and then being to apply at the end of my strands working my way to the root. TIP – your ends have seen the most heat, sun and color so make sure to give the love first. The oil based product and creme based product is the perfect blend to treat thirsty hair.
STYLING HAIR :: With every other wash I also alternate letting my hair air-dry curly and blowing it out straight. On the days that the air-dry I still add the above styling products and let it dry on it’s own. Once it’s dry I might go through some of the strands with a 1” barrel iron to smooth some of the frizziness. The day after washing my hair I have to go over it with an iron. Once my hair is dry and BEFORE applying heat to my hair I always add another dab of LIGHT ELEMENTS. On the days that I blow it out I use a round brush and dryer with a narrow nozzle which helps to tame the flyaway’s. From there I again, add another dab of LIGHT ELEMENTS and then use my CHI flat iron. Key to healthy hair is having a gold plated iron. $100 bucks… best investment!
In addition I’m not teasing my hair as much 🙁 big boo, I know… with teasing comes spritzing and so therefore I’ve laid off the hairspray.
GROWTH :: Something that I’ve tried over and over again but fell lazy to using it after awhile. This time, I’m 3 weeks strong of taking my H.) BIOTIN daily. 3 weeks later I find myself with nails that I never knew I could have. LONG. Ten minutes after shaving I find myself with stubble on my limbs… and little sporadic chin hairs that are bracing themselves with their presence; I won’t go there!
You still with me??? Again, this is what I’m doing – who knows if I’m right or wrong but for now it’s working for me… not too mention that the other day at the mall someone commented on how healthy my hair was – no joke!
Anyone have any other tips??? Next up is my tips for a healthy face…
