I’m a sucker for anything vintage… I really feel like that’s where my knack is… I love the “old time” era… 1920’s all the way up to the 1970’s… disco fever! Maybe it’s because I remember growing up and spending time at my yiayias… I would play “dress up” and sit for hours in her “pink bedroom” {my mom’s old room}, head to toe bedazzled in her collection of what’s now considered “vintage” jewels, I would sit in her silk pink robe in front of a big ornate vanity with an attach mirror, bushing my hair with a handheld gold brush and turning slightly so that I could catch a glimpse of the back of my hair through her matching “vintage” handheld mirror. Even back then, when I was 8 I felt like I was in an old time movie… a little memory, that was sweet to just look back on. Anyways, with that said, when I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to style a vintage shoot, I smile…
Here’s a “so in love” couple… who are both history buffs so we took the troops to a vintage train station right in the heart of North Carolina. The “story” we created, a solider going off to war.
Ashley is beautiful and has a models body, she made my job simple. We pulled both dresses from Anthro, black + white t-strap shoes from Urban Outfitters and then accessorized; from the hats, purse to the gloves… we found all of those accessories from digging through boxes upon boxes at a local costume shop. For Ryan we found a great “costume”, which we rented for the day. His wardrobe for the second look is just stuff that I pulled from his closet which complemented Ashley’s dress. We kept Ashley’s makeup minimal with an emphasizes on her eyes and lips which really gave this angelic/ vintage feel. For her hair I just pin curled her long locks.
Kristin Vining is beyond talented when it comes to photography and FASHION too… but now, take a moment to sift through the work of KV’s art!
