You all know I’m a fan of a bold lippy…and I love seeing my favorite ladies rock a lip with confidence. Kate with Dress Your Guests is known for her strong lip and simple makeup.
I think the only secret behind wearing a bold red lip, is finding the confidence to wear it. I always tell my clients, if you’re not used to a super bold lippy, dummy it down at first by adding a coat of gloss or chapstick before applying the lipstick. From there, you can gradually apply with a little more confidence (or cocktails – that always helps) until you’ve built up to the true color straight from the tube to the lippy. Today, we’re sharing a few of our tips and reminding you that if there’s a time of year to indulge in a fancy tube of lipstick – it’s NOW!
I’ve paired your foundation coloring/ skin tone with the shade of lipstick to ring in the Holidays and New Year. Also, we can stop at the lips… I also added my favorite shimmery highlighter/ blush.
FINDING YOUR RED
-Fair skin (think Scarlette Johnson), then don’t steer away from the Coral-y reds – they add a shot of color but aren’t overpowering. Our two favorite colors: MAC Barbecue + Charlotte Tilbury Tell Laura. Add a little holiday sparkle on your cheeks with: Givenchy Le Prisme Blush Aficionado Peach.
– Beige or medium beige skin, you’ll love a berry (red that has a slight pink) to be safe… but I’m suggesting you step it up this holiday season and go for it. Go all out with RED. Orange-based brick reds flatter olive complexions! Again, if this scares you, stick to a plum/ berry red. Our two favorite colors: Bobbi Brown Luxe Sunset Orange + Chanel Rouge Coco Gabrielle. Add a little holiday sparkle on your cheeks with: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Bronze.
– Warm beige, go for the deep burgundy-based hues deliver intensity without feeling vampy – they look beautiful. Stick with shades similar to warm brick. Our two favorite colors: ‘L’Absolu Rouge Définition’ Demi-Matte Lipstick Le Carmin + Dolce&Gabbana Beauty Black Magic Add a little holiday sparkle on your cheeks with: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Cool Peach.
This color by Smashbox has been one of my favorite go-to colors for years. It’s $21, which I think is a great price point for a bold lipstick that doesn’t bleed. Yikes! Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in color “Fireball”. It’s a great color if you’re in the beige neutral range.
FINDING THE PERFECT FOUNDATION
This foundation is new to my world, but I’m loving it! If you’re local to Charlotte, you can only purchase online :(! Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Mattifying Oil Free . Both Kate and I use color Pearl for fair and neutral undertones… aka, we haven’t seen the sun or a spray tan in a couple of months. It’s a great natural color that can be adjusted with a pressed powder over the top.
Why does a makeup artist L.O.V.E. this foundation? So many reasons. It’s a breakthrough liquid-to-powder foundation formula that absorbs oil, camouflages imperfections, and delivers a long-lasting, velvet-matte finish. It’s beautiful… especially for us mama’s in our 30’s. I love that it doesn’t collect in the fine lines and creases.
